Little Monsters by Kara Thomas was published on July 25th 2017 by Delacorte Press. Synopsis: For fans of Pretty Little Liars, Little Monsters is a new psychological thriller, from the author of The Darkest Corners, about appearances versus reality and the power of manipulation amongst teenage girls. Kacey is the new girl in Broken Falls. When she moved in with her father, she stepped into a brand-new life. A life with a stepbrother, a stepmother, and strangest of all, an adoring younger half sister. Kacey’s new life is eerily charming compared with the wild highs and lows of the old one she lived with her volatile mother.
And everyone is so nice in Broken Falls—she’s even been welcomed into a tight new circle of friends. Bailey and Jade invite her to do everything with them. Which is why it’s so odd when they start acting distant. And when they don’t invite her to the biggest party of the year, it doesn’t exactly feel like an accident. But Kacey will never be able to ask, because Bailey never makes it home from that party. Suddenly, Broken Falls doesn’t seem so welcoming after all—especially once everyone starts looking to the new girl for answers. Kacey is about to learn some very important lessons: Sometimes appearances can be deceiving. Sometimes when you’re the new girl, you shouldn’t trust anyone.

My thoughts: I am a huge Pretty Little Liars fan and found Little Monsters while looking for something to fill the void after watching the final episode of PLL. I heard a lot about Little Monsters and knew that this would be my next read. Oh my gosh, I was drawn in from the first page! The story centers around Kacey, two of her friends and Kacey’s family. The characters all have intriguing backstories that help to sway your opinions along the way making you always second guess who did it and why. The story takes place in Broken Falls, Wisconsin in the dead of winter where everything is dark and cold. This setting helps to build the suspense of the plot line and Thomas pulls you in deeper with each page. After a town tragedy that takes place many years ago, the town is believed by many to be haunted by a women in red that roams the woods around the place her husband and children were murdered, The three girls decide to see if they can see the women in red late one night in the only building, a barn, that is left standing on the property. This is where everything goes down hill fast. Can Kacey trust her friends or her family? Will she be surprised to find out the truth among the lies or will she end up being the suspect to a crime she knows nothing about. Thomas writes a completely intriguingly suspenseful novel that will keep you up at night from wanting to know what happens next and the on the edge of your seat feeling you will experience while reading this amazing book. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more from the author.
