Instructions for a Secondhand Heart by Tamsyn Murray – Review

Instructions for a Secondhand HeartInstructions for a Secondhand Heart by Tamsyn Murray has an expected publication date of December 5th, 2017 by Poppy and is a young adult novel. Synopsis: A moving novel about grief, guilt, and the unpredictability of love, for fans of Everything, Everything and All the Bright Places.
Jonny knows better than anyone that life is full of cruel ironies. He’s spent every day in a hospital hooked up to machines to keep his heart ticking. Then when a donor match is found for Jonny’s heart, that turns out to be the cruelest irony of all. Because for Jonny’s life to finally start, someone else’s had to end. That someone turns out to be Neve’s twin brother, Leo. When Leo was alive, all Neve wanted was for him (and all his glorious, overshadowing perfection) to leave. Now that Leo’s actually gone forever, Neve has no idea how to move forward. Then Jonny walks into her life looking for answers, her brother’s heart beating in his chest, and everything starts to change.

Together, Neve and Jonny will have to face the future, no matter how frightening it is, while also learning to heal their hearts, no matter how much it hurts. The final book will feature select illustrations from “Jonny’s” sketchbook.

Tamsyn MurrayAbout the author:  Hertfordshire-based writer of books. Lives with one husband, one daughter, one son, one mad chocolate labrador, one aged tabby cat, five gorgeous bunnies. Likes animals (no, really?), Marmite and messing about on stage. Dislikes spiders, celery and arrogant people.

My thoughts: This book is the kind of book that will pull at your heartstrings and have you on a roller coaster ride of emotions throughout this remarkable read. You will laugh, cry, and appreciate just how important life is. In an instant life can change, without warning. Whether you like it or not. This emotional read shares the profound story of Jonny who is currently waiting for a new heart. He is hoping one comes sooner rather than later even though that means someone will have to die, in order for this to happen. Murray has the ability to write in a way that will mess up your emotions with tug at your heart moments to heartbreaking moments that will have you in tears. Overall an outstanding read. I look forward to reading more from this author. ** I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest and unbiased review. **
